Sun-Ray Cinema opening a 10-screen theater with a massive kitchen in Tampa
Tampa, get ready for a new cinematic experience. Sun-Ray Cinema is officially opening its doors at 12322 University Mall Ct. After months of negotiation and planning, the Jacksonville-based theater has found a new home in Tampa, and they’re bringing their signature blend of great films and delicious food with them.
The team shared their excitement on Facebook, saying, “We found our next home in Tampa! It’s a ten-screen theater with a massive 4,000 sq ft kitchen. We’ll be open by December 11, just in time for a live performance of Nosferatu with composer Jozef Van Wissem!” And that’s just the beginning.
What’s new at Sun-Ray?
Expect the same awesome experience you know and love—just with a Tampa twist. The new theater will feature ten screens, with updates coming over time. Three rooms will open first, showing movies like Moana 2, Wicked, and Nightbitch, plus a festive holiday lineup. And it gets better: expect a unique lineup of special events and signature series, including a Les Blank retrospective, to spotlight Tampa’s filmmaking history.
Foodies, take note: Sun-Ray’s menu will be available for pre-order in the lobby. No need to wait for a server; grab your popcorn (with their signature blend) and drinks in the lobby before heading to your seat. “We’ll bring the food to your seat once you’re settled,” the team explained. No phones required—just a relaxed movie experience with food and drinks at your fingertips.
Special events & live performances
Mark your calendars for December 11, when Jozef Van Wissem, composer of Only Lovers Left Alive, will perform a live score to Murnau’s Nosferatu. Tickets are $15 and go on sale next week.
Tampa, this is just the start. Sun-Ray Cinema is bringing something special to the city—an experience that combines movies, food, and community. Keep an eye out for their grand opening on Facebook.
