Sun-Ray Cinema makes its Tampa debut with Golden Globe nominees and holiday classics

Tampa is about to experience a whole new level of movie magic: Sun-Ray Cinema is now open at 12322 University Mall Court. Its current lineup of films includes the Golden Globe nominated Anora, and Wicked, as well as Moana 2, Gladiator II, Y2K, and Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat.

The team shared their excitement on Facebook back in November, saying, “We found our next home in Tampa! It’s a ten-screen theater with a massive 4,000 sq ft kitchen. We’ll be open by December 11, just in time for a live performance of Nosferatu with composer Jozef Van Wissem!”

Holiday classics in the city of Tampa

Sun-Ray will also screen holiday classics later this month. The full lineup:

• December 18, 7 p.m.: Christmas Vacation
• December 21, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.: Elf
• December 22, 6 p.m.: White Christmas
• December 24, 6 p.m.: It’s a Wonderful Life

Tickets for all future screenings can be reserved in advance online.

What’s new at Sun-Ray?

Sun-Ray’s Tampa location launched with four screens. Over time, all ten screens will be operational, promising a diverse range of films and events.

The theater is also planning special programming, including a Les Blank retrospective, which celebrates Tampa’s rich filmmaking history.

Food lovers will enjoy a streamlined experience at Sun-Ray. Guests can pre-order food and drinks in the lobby and have everything delivered directly to their seats. The team explained, “We’ll bring the food to your seat once you’re settled. No phones required—just a relaxed movie experience with food and drinks at your fingertips.”

Special events & live performances

A grand opening event will be held on December 11, and will feature a live performance by Jozef Van Wissem, composer of Only Lovers Left Alive, accompanying a screening of Nosferatu. Tickets are $15.
