MOSI unveils new indoor Drone Zone in Tampa
MOSI, Tampa’s Museum of Science & Industry (4801 E Fowler Ave), has unveiled its newest permanent exhibit, the Flight Club Drone Zone, presented by Suncoast Credit Union. This hands-on experience invites visitors to take control of drones, race each other, and explore cutting-edge technology that’s reshaping industries worldwide.
The dedicated indoor drone space offers a safe and exciting environment for guests of all ages to try drone flying under the guidance of MOSI educators. The exhibit also features a variety of drones on display, ranging in size and purpose, alongside videos showcasing real-world applications like agriculture, search and rescue, and aerial photography.
MOSI teaches kids and adults how to operate drones
“Drones are transforming our lives, from enhancing efficiency to creating new careers,” said Kevin Johnson, President and CEO of Suncoast Credit Union. “We’re thrilled to partner with MOSI to make this technology accessible to the Tampa Bay community.”
The exhibit traces its roots to a 2023 pilot program in MOSI’s IdeaZone. After testing, MOSI’s team expanded the area to accommodate multiple participants, replaced fragile drones with durable models, and redesigned the space with snag-free mesh walls. The result is a dynamic zone where guests can participate in skills challenges, head-to-head races, and hands-on learning.

Learning vital skills for a future career
Flight Club Drone Zone aligns with MOSI’s mission to connect visitors with emerging technologies. “We make science real, hands-on, and show how it impacts our future,” said MOSI CEO John Graydon Smith.
Drone technology is booming, with job postings doubling between 2021 and 2023. Through this exhibit, MOSI aims to inspire visitors to explore these growing career opportunities.
Suncoast Credit Union members can enjoy a special deal: buy one MOSI ticket and get a second free with a Suncoast debit or credit card.
